Grocery Store Workers Threaten To Strike

MYFOXNY.COM - 16,000 workers at local grocery stores are getting closer to a possible strike. The current contracts with Stop and Shop, King Kullen, and Pathmark end on June 26th.

United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1500, New York State's largest grocery workers Union, is conducting strike authorization meetings on Wednesday, June 23.

A strike would affect more than 150 supermarkets in New York City, Long Island, Westchester Putnam and Dutchess Counties.

Local 1500 President Bruce W. Both says there hasn't been a major strike in the region's grocery industry in 30 years.

The union says the two sides have not been able to come up with agreements on healthcare benefits, pension funding, wage increases and the use of part time workers.
