Supermarkets, union reach tentative contract

MID-HUDSON – Stop and Shop, Pathmark and King Kullen supermarkets have reached a tentative agreement with United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1500, which represents between 3,000 and 4,000 workers in Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester County stores.

Union spokesman Patrick Purcell said the 38 month pact is a good one for the employees.

“We think it’s an outstanding settlement that continues to have no co-pays in health insurance for the workers,” he said. “We think this is a fair settlement and we are happy to that we are able to avert a strike and not inconvenience the customers.”

The agreement, which is slated to be voted on in early July, includes pay increases depending upon the length of service of the worker.

Local 1500’s contract with ShopRite on those three counties expires in September.
