Grocery workers union reaches tentative agreement, averts potential strike
A tentative settlement has been reached between grocery workers and three supermarket chains, the union representing the workers said Monday evening.
This means a potential strike has been averted, said Patrick Purcell, spokesman for Local 1500 of the United Food and Commercial Workers union.
A strike would have affected Stop & Shop in Dutchess County with about 1,000 workers covered by the union, as well as King Kullen and Pathmark/A&P stores in southern New York.
“It was Stop & Shop that made these talks extremely difficult,” Purcell said in his statement.
