Your Union Contract and Working on Sunday
As a member of UFCW Local 1500, you are covered by a Union Contract. We're going to cover an issue, or myth that is frequently associated with Sundays...
Myth: You must work on Sunday if scheduled. Sunday is a mandatory work day.
Fact: You are not required to work Sundays. Sunday work is voluntary.
This is an important rule for everyone to understand, espcially if you are a new hire. If you cannot work on Sunday, pleasee tell your manager. Howerver, the company has to be able to staff the store. If no one can work, then the store manager may do two things:
- Ask for volunteers
- If there are no volunteers, then they can schedule according to reverse seniority, beginning with the newest hires.
