Fair Wages

letter“We Need More Money” – the words that were typed on a piece of paper and sent to UFCW Local 1500 President Bruce W. Both. It is a message that the Union negotiators have heard loud and clear.

Each time the Union and your employers begin to bargain a new collective bargaining agreement; the issue of fair wages is foremost on every negotiators mind. That will be no different in 2010.

The cost of living has skyrocketed since the last contract negotiations in 2006. Gas, electricity, housing, food, schools, clothing and so many other items have gone up in cost. The American Dream is getting harder to achieve and even harder to maintain.

It is true the economy is not as strong today as it has been in the past. However, your employers are benefiting from this because many people are not going out to dinner as much or shopping in high price gourmet stores. Also, your employer benefits from having employees that are treated fairly. That requires a proper wage increase for all workers.

Your Union negotiating Committee will work hard to make sure you continue to receive wages that are fair.
